The UK's 3PL logistics market is regional: The right warehouse depends on whether your customers are in Yorkshire, the Midlands, the North West, the South West or Scotland, and on which port or motorway your stock comes in through.
We cover the UK regions outside London and Manchester, which have their own guides: 3PL companies in London and 3PL companies in Manchester.
Which UK Region Should You Choose for 3PL Fulfilment?
The UK region you choose for a 3PL should follow where most of your orders ship and how your stock arrives in the country.
Which 3PL Companies Operate in Each UK Region?
UK regional 3PLs split into ecommerce fulfilment houses that pick and pack individual orders, and contract warehouses built for pallets, bonded storage and B2B. The notes below say which is which.
Yorkshire: Leeds and the M1/M62 Junction
Leeds sits where the M1 and M62 meet, so a Yorkshire warehouse has motorway routes south to the Midlands and London and west to Manchester and Liverpool.
- VLT Logistics (Yeadon, Leeds): 500,000 sq ft of warehousing on the Leeds Bradford Airport Industrial Estate, open 24/7 and FORS Silver accredited. Best for brands that need contract warehousing alongside order fulfilment.
- Curo Fulfilment (Leeds): standard, oversize and multi-product fulfilment from Logic Leeds, including Amazon FBA and Vendor processing. Best for brands selling on Amazon and their own store. Curo serves UK-based companies only.
- Madison 3PL (Leeds): pick, pack and dispatch, product rework and automated wrapping, plus a metal-checking facility. Best for brands whose products need checking or reworking before dispatch.
North West: Liverpool and the Port of Liverpool
Liverpool's 3PLs are built around the Port of Liverpool and the M62 into Manchester, which makes them a natural fit for brands bringing stock in by sea.
- MultiChannel Fulfilment (Aintree, Liverpool): a 70,000 sq ft fulfilment centre with 7,500 pallet spaces, plus sites in Haydock and Skelmersdale. It has a dedicated Shopify fulfilment service and is registered under HMRC's Fulfilment House Due Diligence Scheme. Best for Shopify brands shipping parcel orders.
- Kays Logistics (Speke, Liverpool): a purpose-built 40,000 sq ft warehouse five minutes from the container port and the airport, with kitting, labelling, assembly and temperature-controlled storage. Best for brands that need products prepared before they ship.
- TWA Warehousing (Wirral and Liverpool): less than 8 miles from the Port of Liverpool, with container devanning and e-fulfilment. Best for importers that receive full containers.
Midlands: Nottinghamshire and the M1
The East Midlands is the UK's most central 3PL region, with the M1 running through it and East Midlands Airport, a major air cargo hub for DHL and UPS, close by.
- Prolog Fulfilment (Annesley, Nottinghamshire): an HMRC-approved customs bonded warehouse on Sherwood Business Park. Best for brands that import and want to defer duty until goods leave the warehouse.
- BDM Logistics (Nottingham): a beauty-specialist 3PL with 146,000 sq ft, 21,000 pallet locations and 10,000 pick locations near the M1. Best for beauty and personal care brands with large SKU ranges.
- Kammac (Worksop, Nottinghamshire): a 68,000 sq ft distribution hub with space for 9,500 pallets, part of a network that also covers Burton upon Trent, Merseyside, Lancashire and the North East. Best for brands that may want more than one Kammac site later.
South West: Bristol and Avonmouth
Bristol's 3PLs cluster around Avonmouth, next to the Port of Bristol and the M4/M5 interchange that links London, South Wales and the Midlands.
- Davies Turner (Avonmouth, Bristol): a customs bonded, AEO-certified facility offering relabelling, repacking, gift wrapping and returns management. Best for importers that need customs handling and fulfilment from one provider.
Scotland: Glasgow and the M8
Glasgow's 3PLs serve Scotland from the M8 corridor, with rail-connected terminals that link to English ports.
- Russell (Hillington, Glasgow): bonded, general and cask warehousing plus e-fulfilment, with rail-connected terminals at Hillington and Coatbridge and AEO-approved, BRC-accredited sites. Best for food and drink brands and anyone moving stock by rail.
- Davies Turner (Cumbernauld): a BRC-accredited fulfilment centre with food storage, east of Glasgow. Best for food brands that need certified storage in Scotland.
Warehouse sizes, certifications and services above are as each provider states them on its own website.
Which 3PLs Cover More Than One UK Region?
ShipBob, AMZ Prep, Kammac and Davies Turner are the 3PLs we verified with UK warehouses in more than one region, which makes them the simplest choice if you want one contract instead of picking a single city.
GXO now includes both Clipper Logistics and Wincanton, so older lists that rank all three separately are describing one company. Its site didn't let us confirm individual UK warehouse towns, so we haven't listed it above.
How Do You Choose the Right UK 3PL?
Choosing a UK 3PL starts with where your orders go, then whether the provider picks parcels or moves pallets.
- Map your order postcodes. If most orders go to northern England, start with Yorkshire or the North West. If they spread across England, the Midlands keeps average transit shortest. Scottish orders, especially to Highlands and Islands postcodes, are often cheaper to ship from a Scottish warehouse because UK carriers add surcharges there.
- Check parcel versus pallet. Several providers in this guide are contract warehouses first. Ask for a live demo of the Shopify connection and confirm real-time order and stock sync, not a daily CSV.
- Match the warehouse to your inbound route. Importing by sea favours Liverpool, Bristol or a bonded site like Prolog Fulfilment. Air freight favours sites near East Midlands Airport.
- Run a trial batch. Send 20 to 50 orders through your shortlisted 3PL before signing. Measure pick accuracy, dispatch time and how fast they resolve an exception.
What Do Overseas Brands Need to Use a UK 3PL?
Overseas brands need an EORI number to import into Great Britain and, in most cases, UK VAT registration, because a business established outside the UK that holds and sells stock in the UK has no VAT registration threshold.
Your 3PL must also be approved under HMRC's Fulfilment House Due Diligence Scheme if it stores goods for sellers established outside the UK. Ask for its FHDDS reference number before you sign. MultiChannel Fulfilment, for example, publishes its number on its website.
Frequently Asked Questions About UK 3PLs
What is the best 3PL in the UK for a Shopify brand?
For Shopify brands, ShipBob is the most ecommerce-focused UK option in this guide, with a native Shopify app and warehouses in Manchester, Birmingham, Kettering and Oxford. MultiChannel Fulfilment in Liverpool also runs a dedicated Shopify fulfilment service.
Which UK region is best if I sell nationwide?
The Midlands is the best single UK region for nationwide orders, because the M1 and the central location keep transit times short to most of England. Brands with heavy Scottish sales often add a second warehouse in Glasgow.
Do I need a UK 3PL if I sell from the EU?
You don't strictly need one, but shipping each order from the EU into the UK adds customs declarations and import VAT to every parcel. Holding stock in a UK 3PL means you clear customs once, in bulk, and your UK customers get domestic delivery times.
